The main objective of Centro de Investigação em Química da Universidade do Porto, CIQ(U.P.) is the advancement of fundamental research in several areas of Chemistry. It also takes into consideration aspects of Research & Development (R&D), as well as services to the Community.
The permanent members of CIQ(U.P.) are mainly staff members of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, who besides the undergraduate and graduate teaching duties perform their research activities in the Research Centre.
The research activity of the Centre has been able to attract a large number of young researchers, making the Centre a privileged location for the supervision and undertaking of research, leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis of both junior members of the Department staff and outside national and foreign graduate students, as well as Post-Doctoral research Associates.
The CIQ(U.P.) is presently organized in six different research groups, accordingly to the scientific interests of its members, namely:
1. Organic Synthesis of Bioactive Compounds
2. Food Chemistry
3. Chemometric Research of Chemical, Environmental, Forensic and Biological Systems
4. Interfacial Electrochemistry, Surface Modification and Sensors
5. Molecular Energetics, Colloids and Bio-interfaces
6. Chemistry and Society
